Pediatric Therapy FAQ's

What is pediatric occupational therapy?

Pediatric occupational therapy helps children develop the skills they need to perform daily activities such as playing, learning, and self-care. It focuses on improving fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and independence.

What kinds of challenges can occupational therapy address?

Occupational therapy can support children with a variety of challenges, including:

· Developmental delays

· Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

· Sensory processing difficulties

· Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

· Learning disabilities

· Coordination or motor skill issues

· Behavioral and emotional regulation difficulties

· Difficulty with self-care activities such as dressing or feeding

How do I know if my child needs occupational therapy?

If your child is struggling with tasks that other children their age can typically do—such as holding a pencil, following instructions, staying focused, or managing emotions—an occupational therapy evaluation can help identify the underlying issues and create a plan for growth and independence.

What happens during an occupational therapy session?

Each session is play-based and engaging, designed around your child’s needs and goals. Activities may include:

· Fine motor skill exercises (puzzles, drawing, cutting)

· Gross motor activities (climbing, balancing, jumping)

· Sensory integration activities (textures, sounds, movement)

· Self-care practice (dressing, eating, hygiene tasks)

How long does my child need occupational therapy?

The duration of therapy depends on your child’s specific goals and progress. Some children may benefit from a few months of therapy, while others may need ongoing support. Progress is regularly reviewed and goals are adjusted as your child develops new skills.

Do you offer in-home or virtual sessions?

Yes! As a mobile occupational therapy practice, we come directly to your home, school, or another convenient location. We also offer virtual sessions when appropriate, providing flexibility for busy families.

How do you involve parents or caregivers in the therapy process?

Parent and caregiver participation is essential for lasting progress. We provide education, strategies, and home activities to reinforce therapy goals and keep you involved every step of the way. Regular communication ensures you stay informed and supported.

Do you accept insurance?

We are a cash-based practice and do not bill insurance directly. However, we can provide a super-bill that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Please check your plan’s out-of-network benefits for details.

What ages do you work with?

We work with children from infancy through adolescence. Whether your child is a baby with developmental delays or a teenager navigating school challenges, our approach is customized to meet their individual needs and developmental level.

Do you provide Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)?

Yes! We offer IEEs for families seeking an in-depth, objective assessment of their child’s occupational therapy needs as part of the special education process. An IEE is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a qualified clinician not employed by the school district, providing families with an independent perspective on their child’s abilities, challenges, and support needs.

Our IEE services include:

· Classroom and playground observations

· Collaboration with teachers and caregivers

· Standardized testing of fine motor, visual-motor, sensory, and functional skills

· A detailed written report with individualized recommendations

· Attendance at the IEP meeting (virtual or in-person) to share findings.

IEEs help ensure your child receives the appropriate supports and accommodations at school so they can thrive in learning and daily life.
