What is pelvic floor therapy?
Pelvic floor therapy is a specialized area of rehabilitation that focuses on helping people who experience symptoms like incontinence, constipation and pain with sex. A pelvic floor assessment investigates weakness, muscle tightness and painful areas both internally and externally in the pelvis region, abdomen and lower back. A pelvic floor therapist can provide treatments like soft tissue mobilization, strengthening, manual release of muscles both internally and externally and invaluable education about modifying behaviors that exacerbate symptoms. They can help you connect with your pelvic floor muscles to reduce symptoms and improve your quality of life.
Do you perform internal work?
I do perform internal work and do not require clients to have this performed if they are not comfortable.
I started my cycle, can I still be seen?
Absolutely! As long as you are comfortable, you can definitely still be seen while on your cycle.
How many sessions will I need to improve?
I typically recommend that clients are seen at least twice. This allows me to evaluate and create a treatment plan and have a follow-up session to your individualized treatment plan.
How long are sessions?
All evaluations and treatment sessions are 60 minutes.
Do you accept insurance?
I am a cash based service provider. I am not in network with insurance companies; however, I can offer you a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement at your request. Please note, I will not be responsible for the management of this process.
Do you provide in-home/concierge sessions?
Yes. I provide in-home visits for an additional charge based on mileage.
What happens in the evaluation?
The purpose of an evaluation is to determine a diagnosis and initiate a treatment plan. The process of providing both of those will heavily depend on your condition and symptoms. The evaluation process typically will start with a thorough conversation about your past and current pelvic concerns, followed by a comprehensive assessment to determine if other areas of your body may be impacting your pelvic health - such as your stress level, posture, body mechanics, balance, strength and overall mobility. Education will be a large portion of the evaluation as well. It may also include (with your consent) an internal and/or external assessment of your vulva.
What does a pelvic floor treatment look like?
A pelvic floor treatment will be individualized to match your specific diagnosis, condition and symptoms. However, with your permission, it may include internal/external manual techniques, personalized exercises and stretches, biofeedback and continued education.
Do I have to have an internal evaluation performed?
No. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with receiving an internal exam, I will not perform this on you.
How soon postpartum can I be seen?
You can be seen as soon as you are cleared by your medical provider.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
You do not need a referral to be seen; however, I do require a medical script to treat pregnant and postpartum people.
